About Us
At spaZa we design functional everyday household items guided by environmental kindness and the upliftment of people.
Our name SpaZa, {pronounced spaw zah} comes from the South African word for a small informal store selling everyday household items, usually from home.
Rooted in the personal experiences of our founder and designer, Julia Schaffer, our designs are driven by a commitment to develop eco-friendly solutions to plastic and disposable household items. Julia, based in Cumberland, BC, Canada, draws inspiration from her passion for cooking, entertaining, exploring, and traveling.
In collaboration with a dedicated team at SpaZa's headquarters in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town, SpaZa products are individually handcrafting. The production of SpaZa products supports home-based and small worker-owned producer groups located in communities facing challenging living conditions on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa.
Spaza's flagship store is situated in The Watershed at V&A Waterfront, with distribution channels extending to the UK, US, and Canada. We are proud to be recognised for our sustainable business practices by the Fair Trade Federation and we are a certified Women-Owned business by WeConnect International.
